Beautifully said, Jeremy!

As one of the only Black kids in my Advanced/Dual Credit classes during high school, I’ve unfortunately fallen into being the token as well as being considered an “oreo”.

It’s been such a pet peeve of mine hearing people say “I don’t see color”. As you said, they think they’re enlightened. But really, this person is just saying that in order for this person to be comfortable around me, they have to pretend not to see what makes us different and erase my Blackness altogether. People need to understand that it’s not the differences that are bad, it’s when you allow those differences to dictate whether or not you’ll treat me with proper respect.
