The street harassments has been 'tame' in comparison to what happened to you. Just like this current leadership has empowered people to be outright racist, it has also empowered certain men to act absolutely disgusting (including that police officer who claimed that you were given 'a compliment').

Thanks for providing this insight and these resources; unfortunately a lot of women don't know what to do when this happens. I've always taken the side of caution, simply because I never know what this particular person is capable of. At best, I could get cursed at and at worst I could get seriously hurt. But ultimately, as you stated, bystanders have to take a stand as well. A message has to be sent that this behavior is not only wrong, but no one is laughing with you and no one is tolerating it.
