I felt this whole story.
Most of my professional experience has been administrative/client-facing. People have no idea what type of mental bandwidth you have to have not just to do your job — but to do it while being disrespected, misunderstood, falsely blamed, and the ultimate scapegoat for when someone messes something up.
Ironically, it’s thanks to admins and other back-end operations that companies can run as efficiently as they do. Ever wonder what would happen if everyone’s Executive Assistant, Receptionist, Personal Assistant, etc. just left the building at a major corporate office? People would be to pieces within the hour.
People like Ms. Elle have issues with entitlement and hierarchy. They think that just because your job is service-oriented that they can talk to you any type of way. Like you’re not deserving of respect.
Being a receptionist (or any other category of admin) means taking sometimes you take L’s you don’t even deserve. You can only hope to work at a place where people actually respect and appreciate you, rather than a bunch of Ms. Elles.
