I grew up with 'country dogs' that didn't really go anywhere outside of the fields they've grown up around. But I just don't understand why people think that having their dog without a leash in the suburbs, city, just anywhere where a lot of people (and cars or animals) are present is a good idea. I feel like a lot of it has to do with arrogance. They think their dog is so incredibly trained that they can just do stuff like that. I've encountered some really well trained dogs, but even well behaved dogs can have their moments of just....being a dog.
Even if they were the most perfect dog to ever exist and they want them without a leash, who says another dog (on a leash) won't try to jump, be over friendly, etc?
