“I knew then that Ms. Morrison’s words were not written for my White peers to understand. That was radical.”

I love this piece. Toni Morrison was (honestly, always will be) my favorite author and she’s essentially one of the main reasons why I’m driven to write. And funny enough, my first exposure to her work was when AP English class was assigned ‘The Bluest Eye’. For me and the only other two Black girls in the class, Morrison holds a special place. There’s no question that she was speaking to us and I believe it is the first time I ever felt like that while reading a novel. She is seriously a legend and I know my future household will be stocked with copies of her work.
