I most definitely appreciate this piece.
I think what happens for a lot of us, especially just starting out, is that we get sucked into a “scarcity mentality”. We feel like we have to say yes to everything this client wants and do everything we can to keep them happy, to the point that we sacrifice our own productivity and self-respect.
Bad clients definitely have a tendency to view writing as not a “real” profession, which is the reason why they don’t respect your time and energy on their projects. Once you cut loose people like this, it definitely makes room for us to spend our time and energy on people that DO respect our craft.
