“stop siloing our journeys into either the super successful hardworking honest model minority American Dream achieving and living immigrant narrative or the badass who flipped the finger at all that” < I love this. Thanks for sharing, Hyun! As a fellow person of color, I can’t help but feel the parallel to how Black Americans are portrayed in media. It’s always a toss up between the classic Black stereotypes (i.e. Good Times) or overcompensation of those stereotypes by making a polar opposite (i.e. The Cosby Show). I feel like we are finally stepping into an era in which people acknowledge Blackness as multi-dimensional. I feel that it’s likely that in time, hopefully at a faster rate, the same can take place for the Asian American community as well. Thanks for sharing!
