In the past, I think women feared being judged for not being joyful and exciting while pregnant. It was just easier to grin and bear it. But I think now we're getting to a point where people are more concerned with getting real-deal advice and having realistic expectations. A friend of mine absolutely adores her children, but she definitely didn't shy away from the fact that her pregnancy experience was horrible for a number of reasons. The fact of the matter is, you're literally developing a human (sometimes more than one) and you're faced with the task of taking care of yourself in order to take care of them. Even a 'smooth' pregnancy will take a physical and emotional toll.
I know that when my time comes, if someone is getting on my nerves I'll just have to dismiss them by saying "look, I don't have time for this. I'm over here tryna grow a pinky toe. Get out my face".
