Very true, there are plenty of people out there who try to pull one over in the system. As more information became available for this case, I can’t say I honestly believe that Robin’s parents had this type of ill intent. They’re described as relatively conservative, and it’s very likely they just had no idea how to handle Robin’s rebellious personality and the problematic things she got herself into at a young age.

It very well could have been her needing to be heard, accepted, and given more attention. We all know that the Black community (generally speaking) still isn’t keen on the idea of therapy; I haven’t found anything just yet that confirms whether or not her parents allowed her to participate in therapy but it doesn’t seem likely. But I do agree that in our society there does seem to be a rush (both on the side of doctors and parents) to diagnose children with behavioral disorders.
