This definitely resonates. One thing I’ve come to dislike is seeing how people on social media will cry “baby fever” and share photos of random light-skinned, curly haired, light-eyed babies. It’s like do you have baby fever or just ‘light skinned/exotic’ baby fever? It just didn’t sit right with me.
I know one of my concerns is, as time goes on and I have a kid, there’s a high liklihood that they’ll be light skinned. It’s really important for me to make sure they don’t succumb to these biases, that they don’t have this false idea of “I’m light, and that makes me prettier than all my dark-skinned peers”. I’m hoping that early education, as well as exposure to various skin tones (most of the family on my dad’s side is darker) can help with this.
