This is the very point I really wish people would understand. Yes, the struggle is a part of Blackness but it is not the only part. We are a multifaceted group and we are capable of writing about other things.

I feel that stories of struggle or overcoming struggle as a Black American usually do well because it’s one of the tropes. Our people are known for our resiliency (i.e. ‘the strong Black woman’ trope).

We often see it in film as well, movies centered around a Black cast that focuses on struggle (12 Years a Slave, Selma, The Green Book, etc.) tend to do very well because they allow the White audience to see “how far we’ve come” as a nation instead of focusing on the present problems that we still have when it comes to systemic racism and inequality.
