Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Funny enough, I started implementing this early last year. I’m exactly 5 feet tall, so I definitely feel every bit of this lol. What I found puzzling when I conducted this experiment for myself is that — no matter what — I was expected to move. This includes times where it would be physically impossible for me to get out of the way (I’m against a fence, wall, etc. or in danger of crossing deep mud in nice shoes) whereas the other person has ample space to move). From what I remember, I only got slammed a couple of times (by old White men). Otherwise guys would pull the last minute pivot like ‘oh shit she ain’t moving!’ With the latter, it’s very likely they thought they would cause some damage (I look pretty fragile in person).
I was supposed to just do it for a month, but I honestly just kept doing it. I had no idea what it would do for my confidence. I found myself walking taller and at this point I stopped expecting to get slammed entirely. Of course, I do try to get out of the way when I know it’s just easier for me to do so (because manners). But now I know it’s not my only option.
