Thanks so much for sharing this. I've tried to explain this to people but they just end up confused about why I'm "not taking the compliment". As you said, there was a time in which the Strong Black Woman trope was helpful for us; it went against the more negative stereotypes like The Jezebel or The Mammy. But even with 'good' stereotypes there does come a cost. Yes, we CAN be strong. But we shouldn't be required to ONLY be strong. Black women deserve to express their emotions just like everyone else. It doesn't make us weak!
