Thanks so much for sharing this Anjali; it’s truly disturbing that we’re still living in a time that this can happen. The dark irony of the situation is astonishing. But I’ve had this conversation with a lot of White peers and colleagues and it really comes down to a decision. They have to decide that they will listen and actually take part in the conversation, rather than just shut down and reject anything that is outside of their comfort zone. They experienced intense discomfort and fear that their way of life is becoming targeted, not even realizing that this discomfort is basically a Person of Color’s existence in a nutshell. It’s like what Toni Morrison said “if someone else has to be on their knees in order for you to feel tall then you have a serious problem”.
