“The Academy is forever recognizing movies designed to relieve our uneasiness over history’s darkest chapters”

This is most definitely true. It seems like movies like The Help or Green Book (i.e. films that depict a White Savior character) tend to do extremely well both in the box office and at the Academy Awards. It only emphasizes the idea that Americans are more concerned about their comfort than they are the reality of these situations. The more we ‘numb’ ourselves to that reality, the easier it is to continue to water down our history. Great read; thanks for sharing!
