Thanks for sharing this, Octavia. I find that a lot of guys who push the “I’m a nice guy, but girls don’t want that!” narrative are typically what you describe as a Transactional Nice Guy. When it comes to the guys I’ve encountered or even former friends who have said things like this, it’s usually apparent that they 1) Feel a great sense of entitlement because of their ‘niceness’ and 2) Are basing that statement off of maybe one or two experiences. For the guys I knew personally, I knew what their problem was: they were either boring or had very unpleasant personalities.
Being nice and kind to someone is literally — as you stated — the bare minimum. It’s something we [should] learn at a very young age. The fact that there are too many men out there who expect women to fall at their feet for showing basic human decency is beyond me.
