This was quite an interesting read. I'm very sorry that you had to go through that, it seems like in this situation everyone loses (except the mom I guess).
Reading this, I immediately thought about this internet meme that was floating around not too long ago. There were various ones, but they all seemed to put a man in the hypothetical situation of choosing between their wife and their mom (who are you hugging first after a long time away? who is sitting in the front seat of the car? etc.). I found this strange because I didn't even think this was 'a thing'. But the many responses to this type of scenario told me otherwise.
Personally, I would find it very unhealthy if any mother is trying to be "the #1 woman" in her son's life. Secularly and biblically, I've always grown up with the expectation that, after marriage, both party's priority should be for their new household. While I have sympathy for Henry in this situation, I'm still pretty bothered that he allowed three different marriages fail at the hands of his mother. I hope that he, and men like him, can find the help needed to remedy this type of unhealthy attachment.
