#WhiteCoWorkersBeLike

Both me and one of my friends (Family is from Chile) have had similar encounters. Hers happened a lot more often because, like the office you described, all of the kitchen and cleaning staff were Latin American. This is despite them wearing distinct uniforms while she wore a collard shirt and dress pants every single day.

For me, someone thought I was a valet driver at my old office’s Christmas party. And then just other low-key shots about their “surprised” reactions to how articulate I am (“you speak so well!”). No shit, Shirley, am I supposed to sound like an episode of Good Times?

Code switching is most definitely exhausting, and it would be so nice to live in a time in which it isn’t necessary just to get through a work day.

Thanks for sharing!
